"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in
its net of wonder forever."—Jacques Cousteau

“It doesn’t matter where you go in life as long as you go to the beach.” –Unknown

Our first full day in Puerto Rico started with a wonderful breakfast at a place called Tostado...amazing coffee and a breakfast made from scratch. Our plan this week is to head west...making our way around the island to Fajardo next week, which is on the east coast of Puerto Rico.

Our first stop of the day was Mar Chiquita Beach (Little Sea). It's a small cove of a beach protected from the rough Atlantic by a rocky wall. It's one of Puerto Rico's top beaches, because it's stunning! It's an oval-shaped, golden-sand cove, protected from the open ocean by large natural limestone walls. The ocean water comes in through a small opening in the rocks. This time of year the Atlantic is rough and there were still large waves coming into the cove.

While we were there we hiked up on the eastern wall. The limestone rocks make you feel you're walking on the surface of the moon...very sharp and dangerous if you fall. There were small pools throughout the area that were filled with ocean water. They were the perfect place to sit and relax...they were protected from the pounding surf during low tide.

There were all kinds of neat things in the water
After exploring Mar Chiquita we drove west to Arecibo and found our little piece of paradise at Salitre Guest House...our home away from home for the next few days. We spent the rest of the day relaxing by the pool, taking in the view of the ocean and enjoying a nice dinner at Salitre Meson Costero.
The view from our room...I think we may be in paradise.
