“You don't change the world simply by looking at it. You change it through the way you choose to live in it.” –Amelia Wren (The Aeronauts)

Today we drove into Santurce, a neighborhood in San Juan, to check out the La Plaza del Mercado de Santurce. It's a small produce market surrounded by bars and restaurants. I think the area really comes alive after dark on the weekend. It reminded me of Sixth Street in Austin. We drove over with John and Janice and had a nice lunch at Asere. The restaurant features a Cuban Puerto Rican fusion type menu that was very good.

Our cute little lunch place...Asere.
Stan and I enjoyed a little time at the beach when we returned and then had dinner at a very local beach bar called the House of Pastilles. The little place is right across the street from our condo...nothing fancy but the food was tasty and very authentic. We sat on the deck and enjoyed visiting with some local families.
Our view with dinner.

  1. Have you noticed much damage still existing from the big hurricane that decimated Puerto Rico a few years ago? Does the country seem to be struggling?

    1. I'm sure locals can see things are different, the same as we see Rockport is not the same. The country is beautiful, the people are very friendly and very proud of their country. It is well taken care of and very clean. Cleaner than a lot of places we have been in the states. We traveled all the way around the island. We loved the island and they seem to be doing very well.
