"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in
its net of wonder forever."—Jacques Cousteau

Sept. 7 - Bouctouche, NB

“The journey not the arrival matters.” –T.S. Eliot

Today we stayed put and waited for Hurricane Dorian to come ashore in Halifax. It was nice to have a day to relax, but it's a little disappointing that the hurricane is changing our plans. We spent the day doing a little research on what we'd like to see now that we aren't going to Nova Scotia and watching TV.

We did venture out to do a little exploring before the rain and wind picked up. We drove by three lighthouses. The lighthouses in New Brunswick all look very similar, but they're still fun to find. We also found a wonderful little farmers market in Boutouche. It was full of wonderful things to eat and the smells of things cooking was very enticing. We visited with some of the vendors and tried some traditional fish cakes. The people of New Brunswick are extremely friendly and love to talk. We've really enjoyed visiting with the people we've met.

Some of the things we saw at the farmers market
Dixon Point Range Front Lighthouse established in 1881.
Dixon Point Range Rear Lighthouse established in 1881.
Pointe à Jérôme Range Front Lighthouse established in 1881.
Waiting for Dorian to move through Nova Scotia.
We went out in the rain for dinner at La Sagouine. It has a menu full of Acadian dishes (we're in the Acadian area of NB). I had the Coques Frites (Fried clams) and Stan had Chicken Fricot (Acadian chicken stew with pâtes - a.k.a. dumplings).
