Branford Yacht Club
Weather seems to be the biggest factor in determining where and when we move this year. We had planned on visiting a few more places on Long Island before we moved across the sound to Connecticut, but we could see today would be the best day this week to move. More rain and wind are predicted, so we are now spending time in Branford, CT visiting with friends.
Our trip up the sound today was beautiful. The water was almost slick, the sun was out and the winds were light. We were docked and had a chance to wander around a little before the predicted thunderstorm moved through the area. Luckily they didn't last long.
Our friends, Ted and Sally, live in the neighboring town but keep their boat in Branford. We arrived a day earlier than expected, so Ted was in Boston, but Sally came down to the boat and spent the evening with us. We were told that pizza is the big thing in the New Haven area...they claim it's the best pizza anywhere! So we had to check it out. Sally and Ted's favorite place is Modern Apizza...it was thin crust (our favorite) brick oven pizza that was very good. After dinner Sally gave us a tour of the Yale campus and then showed us the town of Branford. It's a very pretty area and it was wonderful having a personal guide. Exploring on our bikes will be easier now that we know the lay of the land. It's fun to be able to catch up with boating friends and we look forward to visiting with them more in the next few days.
We saw these guys clamming on our way out of Cold Spring Harbor this morning

The shoreline is getting rocking

If you have the time, you should spend some time anchored in the Thimbles during the week. A little slice of Maine in CT.
