"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in
its net of wonder forever."—Jacques Cousteau

May 14 - Key West, FL

Day 69 - Happy Birthday Eric!
Key West City Marina

Sometimes it's nice not to have TV reception...it forces us to take advantage of sitting on the fly bridge in the morning enjoying our surroundings. That's exactly what we did this morning. Sitting out on the boat also gives us a chance to talk to other people on the dock...we met a nice couple who lives here in Key West. They have been looking at trawlers and stopped by to ask a few questions. They also gave us a few tips on places to eat and things to do in the area. They also have a place in St. Augustine and told us to call them when we get up that way.

Kenneth and Earline picked us up around eleven and we went down to the docks to wander around. We had a great time. We looked at the boats, saw a lot of large tarpons in the water around the boats (no manatee this time), looked through some of the shops and had lunch at a place on Duval Street called Caroline's. After a little more shopping we went back to their resort and relaxed by the pool. They are staying at Parrot Key Resort, a beautiful place that looks like a tropical paradise. Very calming and relaxing after being on Duval Street.

We went back to the boat planning on taking a sunset cruise, but after looking at the weather reports we stayed in port. A little disappointing since it never really started to rain, but there wasn't much of a sunset. We will try to go out in the morning...the water will look prettier when the sun is nice and bright. After they left we went across the street to Thai Life, which is a floating restaurant located in the harbor. We had a wonderful time spending the day with family.

Tarpon along the Harbor Walk...people were feeding them.
