The Poconos

“Two sounds of autumn are unmistakable…the hurrying rustle of crisp leaves blown along the street…by a gusty wind, and the gabble of a flock of migrating geese.” –Hal Borland
We decided this year we would spend some transitional time in Pennsylvania after putting up The Pearl and returning to Texas. The Pocono Mountains are about an hour east of our son Kyle and full of waterfalls, hiking and interesting little towns to explore. We hope to enjoy the fall watching the leaves change and exploring another beautiful part of our country.

The Pocono Mountains, commonly referred to as the Poconos, encompass forested peaks, lakes and valleys in Northeastern Pennsylvania. They overlook the Delaware River and Delaware Water Gap to the east, Lake Wallenpaupack to the north, Wyoming Valley and the Coal Region to the west and the Lehigh Valley to the south. The charming small towns that dot the region are all unique and should be fi to check out.

The area has long been a destination for vacationers seeking to relax. The earliest resorts opened in the early 1900s. Best known then for theater and skiing. It's a spectacularly beautiful region excellent for bird watching, hiking, fishing, canoeing, golfing, skiing and whitewater rafting. The name Pocono comes from the Munsee word Pokawachne, which means "Creek Between Two Hills".

The view from our front deck.
I have my own little loft to paint in.
I think we're going to like this.
