July 7 – Lockhart, TX

4th of July Celebration
Winter Harbor Marina

We flew home to Texas yesterday and spent today celebrating July 4th with family.  Stan’s sister and brother in-law put on an old fashioned 4th of July celebration on the first Saturday of July…lots of games, food, family and friends.  We were excited to be able to attend this year, since we’ve missed a lot of family get togethers in the past year. The celebration starts in the late afternoon with tons of food…brisket, ribs, sausage, hot dogs for the kids, potato salad, fresh fruit, beans, fresh veggies from the garden, and every type of dessert you can think of! There are competitions for bake goods, hula hoop, bubble blowing, sack races and a seed spitting (this area of Texas is known for it’s wonderful watermelons), with lots of trophies and ribbons for competitors. There’s something for everyone…just watching is very entertaining. We enjoyed getting to spend time with everyone and watching the kids have so much fun.

Plenty of food for everyone!
