April 1 – Apalachicola, FL

Day 26 – Old World Florida
Battery Park Marina

What a beautiful day on the water...just the right temperature and plenty of sunshine. The winds were pretty strong on the bays we crossed, but not too bad in the ICW. The scenery was mostly pine trees and a few marshy areas. Very peaceful.

We haven't seen much wildlife...until today. We saw an alligator crossing the river and then we spotted quite a few ospreys. We also saw four turtles sunning themselves on a log. I really thought we would see more birds along the way. Hopefully that will pick up.

We are docked in Apalachicola right off the downtown area. Several people walked by this evening as we were docking and told us about the Friday night get together at the Gibson Inn. Seems like it's the place to be on Friday nights. We visited with several people there for awhile and then had a nice dinner at the highly recommended restaurant, The Owl. This really seems to be a very friendly little town. From what everyone tells us, it's how Florida used to be. No fast food restaurants, no Wal-Mart and no tourist traps...just friendly family owned businesses.
