"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in
its net of wonder forever."—Jacques Cousteau

Feb. 13 - Charleston, SC

Ashley Marina

This was our fourteenth car trip to or from the east coast since we left Texas on The Pearl in March 2011 (roughly 18,000 miles). Our routes have altered some from one trip to the next...we've traveled to and from Savannah, Great Bridge and Baltimore, but most of our trips have included Charleston. This trip definitely seems like the longest and unfortunately the coldest. We had to choose a longer route back to the boat this year because of another winter storm pushing east through the southern state. The winter of 2014 will be remembered, at least by me, as very cold and dreary...colder than usual in Texas. It would have been a great winter to have been in the Keys or the Bahamas, but we had more important business at home...getting to know our little grand wonder. Spending time with her and the rest of our family and friends made even the coldest, dreariest day wonderful.

The weather delays and our late start on Wednesday meant we wouldn't be able to get back to the boat in Myrtle Beach during daylight hours, so we made a detour to Charleston. It gave us a great excuse to spend the night and visit with friends. We'll return to The Pearl tomorrow, get her opened up, do a few small projects, provision and then cruise to Charleston next week. We are looking forward to being back onboard.

It looks like home except something's missing...The Pearl will be here soon.
