"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in
its net of wonder forever."—Jacques Cousteau

May 16 – Southport, NC

Southport Marina

High winds kept us in port today, getting off the dock and navigating the Cape Fear River just wouldn’t have been fun or safe today. We’re in no big hurry so we spent the day doing a few boat projects and of course a little shopping. This is our second time in Southport. It's a cute little town full of old homes, history and beautiful large oak trees. The town has been used as the backdrop in many TV shows, such as Dawson's Creek and Matlock and a lot of movies including I Know What You Did Last Summer, Summer Catch, Domestic Disturbance, Crimes of the Heart, A Walk to Remember and Safe Haven. North Carolina is the #3 filmmaking state, following only California and New York. It has 30 sound stages and seven major studio complexes located in nearby Wilmington. I’ll have to pay more attention the next time I watch a movie to see if I recognize anything.

We spent the evening visiting with Jim and Betsy on Smiles and playing with their little dog Sailor. They’ve spent a lot of time in the Bahamas and shared some of their knowledge with us…we may have to make our way down there one day.
