June 17 – New Galley Flooring
Rockport Harbor
It’s hard to believe we’ve been home for two months…time has flown by. We’ve been busy with boat projects, house chores and catching up with our family. We’ve gotten to spend a lot of time with our grandwonder, which is the best part of being home.
Our project on Texas Pearl at the moment is replacing the flooring in the galley. I’m not sure if the press on tile, that’s on the floor now, was original to the boat or not but it’s definitely old, stained and worn out. It needed to be replaced. We’re replacing it with white mosaic ceramic tiles. We’ve completed the flooring under the dinette, but Tropical Storm Bill has slowed the progress of the rest of the floor…hopefully we’ll be able to finish by the weekend. Here are a few pictures of the project so far.
The old flooring
First step was to pull up the old floor and remove the sticky residue left behind.Next step was to lay out the floor and cut tiles to fit
Next was to apply thin set and set the tile
The next day Stan applied the grout
The third day Stan finished the flooring by adding a little caulking around the edge.
The finished floor. Notice how much better it looks than the flooring on the bottom of the picture.
