Northeast Harbor Mooring
Mount Desert Island

“I need the sea, because it teaches me.” —Pablo Neruda
Today we cruised over to Mount Desert Island...it was our first foggy day in Maine, not bad since we've been here almost two week. The funny thing is our first foggy day in Maine in 2013 was the day we cruised into Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert (the same place). The fog hung over the harbor all day, but the interior of the island was beautiful and clear. We should have planned to hike this afternoon, but we took the bus to Bar Harbor and hung out with the tourists instead.

The fog came and went in Frenchboro this morning, this was the view from our mooring before we left Long Island.
The fog got considerably thicker as we made our way to Mount Desert. Most of the way visibility was less than 1/8 of a mile. This is our last view of Long Island.
Northeast Harbor as we arrived
Here was our course today. If you'd like to see where we've been or where we are check our our Travel Map

  1. Hope you get chance to cruise up Somes Sound -- utterly lovely. The small harbor at Somesville is a great, sheltered place to drop the anchor. If you move over to Southwest harbor for a night, be sure to dingy over for a meal at Beal's Lobster Pound -- we were just there and the lobster stew and dill lobster roll were fantastic.

Seal harbor just down a little usually has several exquisite downeast style powerboats on moorings, but Northeast harbor often has plenty of great looking classic downeast boats as well.

You are in one of the all time great cruising grounds!

    1. Thanks for all the info...we do love it here. We hiked to Bald Peak and Parkman Mountain today. The weather and the scenery were both fantastic...just couldn't get any better.
