"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in
its net of wonder forever."—Jacques Cousteau

Aug. 8 - Jewell Island, ME

Jewell Island - Anchorage

Our plan for the day was to get up early and leave for Portland. The Piscataqua River leading into Portland is the second fastest-flowing river in the continental United States, with an outgoing tide it would be impossible to make it into Portsmouth, so we needed to be there at slack tide. When we got up at 5:00 it was very windy and beginning to rain, so we quickly decided to stay here another day and went back to bed. By lunch the sky was clearing and it turned into a pretty day, so we did a little more exploring in the dinghy and walked on the beach looking for sea glass. This is a great island to find sea glass. The tide completely covers the beaches twice a day, so there's no telling what you might find.
