Belize Adventure

"Travel as much as you can. As far as you can. As long as you can. Life is not meant to be lived in one place." -Unknown
We're off for a little Christmas adventure with family and friends. We're going to spend the next week on a private island off the town of Planecia in the southern part of Belize. Placencia is one of the most popular destinations in Belize. It's a charming, low-key fishing village located at the southern tip of the Placencia Peninsula. Bordered on one side by a mangrove-lined lagoon and on the other by the Caribbean Sea. It's famous for having some of the most beautiful beaches in the country.
The name “Placencia” is actually a distortion of Punta Placentia, the name the Spaniards gave the peninsula in the 1800s. In English, it means Point Pleasant. The Main Street in Placencia Village is just a sidewalk. In fact, the “Guinness Book of World Records” recognizes it as the narrowest main street in the world.

Belize is a country in Central America that gained its independence from the United Kingdom in 1981. It's the only Central American country where English is its official language. It was known as British Honduras until 1973. It borders Mexico to the north, Guatemala to the west and south, and the Caribbean Sea to the east. The country of Belize is made up of over 400 small islands.
