Sept. 15 - Baltimore, MD

Farmers Market & Festivals
Henderson's Wharf Marina

We had a busy day...our first stop was at the Fell's Point Farmers Market, held every Saturday morning just a few blocks from the marina. It's a fun place to spend an hour or so visiting with people and picking up a few fresh items. After the market we spent a little time on the boat and then headed over to Holy Rosary Church in Canton to a Polish Festival. A small local festival put on by the church as a fundraiser. Lots of good food, music, dancers, beer and even a few games of change. Catholics have a lot more fun at their fundraisers than the Methodist. We had a chance to try pierogi and Polish beer...both were very good. Stan tried his luck on the money wheel and won $7...which we turned around and spent on more pierogi and beer. We even had a chance to dance a polka...it was an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon.

David and Barbara from Memory Maker had investigated tents and stages going up near the end of Thames Street yesterday. They found out it was for The Charm City Music Festival. Their investigation paid off with four tickets to the event...which they shared with us. The festival started at noon and ran until 11:00 PM. They had three stages, which featured over ten bands. Some of the main attractions were Weezer, Flogging Molly, Southern Culture on the Skids and Stephen Marley. None of which we’d ever heard of, but Stephen Marley is the son of Bob Marley and we knew we'd like his Reggae music.

We went early enough to catch a few other bands before he came on. The festival was held in a large open graveled lot, which made it hard to sit anywhere and relax as we listened to the music. It would have been a lot more fun if it had been held in a park. After Marley played we headed back to the marina, where we could still hear the music in the distance. It was fun checking out the festival...definitely not something we would have done without free tickets.

We really enjoy Baltimore, especially Fell's Point. There's always something going on and everyone is so friendly.
