July 31 – Rideau Canal

Locks, Locks, Locks
Long Island Lock

We had a long day; we went through 10 locks and lowered another 92’.  Most of the scenery today was farmland...nice but nowhere near as pretty as the first half of the Rideau Canal. We are docked at the bottom of the Long Island Locks. We docked and then sat in the shade and watched several other boats come down the flight of three locks. Not long after they locked through it began to rain and we spent the rest of the evening watching the Olympics.

Not everything is bigger in Texas...I've never seen a bigger hanging basket. It was beautiful.
There were three locks at Merrickville; they are detached, meaning there is a small body of water between each one.
One of the farms we pasted today
Notice the man in the middle? He is opening the Nicholsons Lock...by hand. The bridge is also opened by hand, all done the same way for 180 years.
Some people have boats...others have planes!
