Cedar Creek - Anchorage
We got up early again
this morning, had breakfast and pulled the anchor by 7:00. We were lucky and
just made the 7:30 opening of the Onslow Bridge. No waiting today on bridges
either...we may be using up all our luck! The last time we came north on this
section of the ICW it was also a Saturday. Weekends are not our favorite time
to be on the water; especially around Morehead City...it can be a real zoo,
with boats scooting around everywhere. There's a large inlet to the ocean just
north of town where large tankers, fishing boats and recreational boats of all
sizes come and go. There is also a large bay with a few small beaches, large
homes and countless piers. Being on the water is a way of life around here and
today was a perfect spring day. Everyone was out enjoying the sun.
A few hours away from
Morehead City I mentioned to Stan that I was hungry for a hamburger, not really
thinking about actually being able to get one. He checked the Internet and
found a couple of restaurants in town that had docks available for diners. When
we arrived the docks were full, but we found a place to anchor and took the
dinghy ashore. What a great idea...it was fun to go for lunch on a cruising
day. The hamburgers were wonderful. We also had a chance to walk through a small
boat show, which included arts and crafts and live music...a great diversion
for a few hours.
From Morehead City the ICW
turns west through Adams Creek into the Neuse River and the Pamlico Sound. We
will now be quite a ways from the ocean until we get to Norfolk, VA. We enjoyed
a quiet evening anchored in Cedar Creek.
