May 14 - North Myrtle Beach, SC

The Barefoot Marina

Today started out as a fleece morning...the kind where you can put on shorts as long as you put on a fleece top to go with them. It stayed beautiful all day, blue skies and lots of sunshine. We had a short day compared to yesterday, only 45 miles. The scenery is very pretty along the Wacammaw River. The ICW follows the river until 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach, where it goes into a manmade ditch with few options on where to stay.

We arrived in Myrtle Beach a little after 2:00, which left us plenty of time to do a little exploring. We rode our bikes across the bridge to Barefoot Landing, which is an entertainment area with lots of shops, restaurants and activities for the whole family. A little like a boardwalk. We wandered around visiting with people and had something to eat at The Flying Fish. We spent the rest of the evening visiting with a couple who keeps their boat at this marina. We had seen them in the anchorage last night and spoke on the radio earlier in the day. It's always nice to make new contacts and exchange boating experiences.
