Chesapeake City Free Dock

Sea Tow brought a sailboat into the marina around 2:30 this morning...docked them right next to us. Of course the commotion woke us up, but we could tell then it was going to be a good day for heading up the Delaware Bay. The dock master told us we should plan to leave the marina one hour before low tide so we would be through the Cape May Canal and into the bay by the time the tide turned (not that it gave us much of a push until we were close to the C&D Canal). So we were up and away from the dock at 7:30. It was a beautiful morning, the storm clouds had moved to the east and the temperature and humidity were lower. It was a great day to be on the water. The highlight of our day was seeing two bald eagles as we came through the canal. They flew right past the boat at eye level...unfortunately I had put my camera away in a safe place in preparation of entering the bay. The shot of a lifetime was missed!

The first hour out of the cut and into Delaware Bay we felt like we were on a hobby horse…choppy little waves and sea spray flying over the bow. It wasn’t hard to put up with since we knew it wouldn't last too long…the further up the bay you go the narrower it gets. Into the second hour the waves were further apart and the ride began to smooth out. Two and half hours out of the cut the bay was calm and we had a beautiful Sunday boat ride. 

As nice as it was to be on the water today, it was also another long day (72 miles). We are both glad to have the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay behind us. Now that we are back in Chesapeake City at the top of Chesapeake Bay we are going to slow down and relax.
