Sept. 6 - Manasquan Inlet, NJ

Back into the Atlantic
Osborn Island - Anchorage

We planned to have a lazy day on the boat and then move over to Sandy Hook so we could be ready to leave tomorrow morning early. Well…as plans usually go, they changed. Stan checked the wind and wave conditions in this part of the Atlantic this morning and it didn’t look too bad…so we decided to start our move down the New Jersey coast today. We were anchored across from lower Manhattan, which is about 15 miles from the Atlantic, because of that location and our late start we made it a short day and went into the Manasquan Inlet. The area is full of beautiful beach homes and fishing boats.

The conditions in the Atlantic Ocean today weren’t too bad…no waves and low wind, but there were 3-4 foot swells. The swells slowly rolled the boat all day and my stomach didn’t like it too much. I think I’ve gotten soft, being in peaceful rivers all summer. We were both ready to be off the ocean when we made the turn to go in the Manasquan Inlet. We are now anchored near a small island surrounded by million dollar homes. For a reward for our day on the ocean we took the dinghy to a nearby restaurant and enjoyed appetizers and a beer. On the way back to the boat we stopped on the island and walked in the sand…it felt nice to have sand between our toes.
