Liberty Park - Anchorage
We left our anchorage knowing it would rain today, but we don't mind traveling in the rain. It's better than just sitting with nothing to do. The current was with us and gave us quite a push. We also seemed to be moving with the storm...right on the tail end of it. The sky was just clearing behind us all day and we only had rain for an hour or so. Our plan was to travel about 67 miles to Haverstraw Bay, but when we got to that point the current was still giving us a great push, so we decided to go all the way to NYC. We anchored behind the Statue of Liberty.
Seeing the buildings of NYC was just as exciting this time as it was last June. You can see them hours before you actually get there. The boat traffic close to lower Manhattan is crazy...ferryboats are everywhere and they move very fast. As exciting as it was to be back in NYC, it felt even better to get anchored in this quiet little cove. We went 103.5 miles today...our second longest day since we started cruising. Our average cruising speed for the day was 7.8 knots (9 mph), it was our fastest day ever. Pretty good for a trawler!
Looking back to Esopus Creek
The Little Red Lighthouse, officially Jeffrey's Hook Lighthouse, is a small lighthouse on the Hudson River in New York City. It was made famous by the 1942 children's book The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge by Hildegarde Swift. The lighthouse stands on Jeffrey’s Hook, a small point of land that supports the base of the eastern pier of the George WashingtonBridge.
