May 2 – Everglades City, FL

Day 57 – Lots of Shells No Alligators
Rod and Gun Club Marina

This area is known as Ten Thousand Islands which are a chain of islands and mangrove islets off the coast of Southwest Florida. The 99-mile long Wilderness Waterway begins at Everglades City and ends at Flamingo at the southern tip of the Florida peninsula. Some of the southeastern islands in the chain are part of the Everglades National Park. We took the dinghy and explored a few of these islands this morning. We've looked for shells on quite a few beaches in Florida, but none of them were as good as the places we went today. We found a lot of nice shells...Stan always seems to find the best ones. Stan also did a little fishing, but no luck.

We enjoyed the nice pool again this afternoon and spent some time planning our route for the next few days. We'll be cruising through a pretty remote part of Florida...no cell service or Internet until we get to Marathon on Wednesday afternoon.

  1. Hello Stan and Susie! Just wanted to let you know Chris and I here at Tarpon Springs are following your adventures and love what we are seeing. I'm still getting the 'White Pelican' up to snuff. To date I have sanded all the wood, put on a spotlight and a cockpit shower. More to do and will keep in touch. Take care.

  2. Hey Susie! Saw your dad over the weekend (posted a photo for you on FB). We discussed your trip and how excited he is about it! Lovely seeing him. Thanks for the photos, I'm trying to talk Frank into buying a trawler now!
