May 1 - Everglades City, FL

Day 56 - Rough Day on the Water
Rod and Gun Club Marina

We had planned to leave Marco Island and go to an anchorage in the Everglades called Little Shark River and then on to Marathon the next day. Plans had to change since the winds in the Marathon area are around 20 mph...more than we want to deal with while crossing open waters. We thought about staying in Marco Island a few more days, but that didn't sound too interesting, so we decided to move down the coast to Everglades City. It's a little out of the way, but it would give us something to do while we wait on the winds to die down. The trip to Everglades City was our roughest day yet. I tried to get a picture of the waves, but they just didn't look that impressive. They felt much bigger than the pictures made them look. Imagine being on a bucking horse for two hours and you will know what a potion of our trip felt like today. I truly like smooth boring seas much better.

Everglades City is a quaint little town. We spent some time by the pool this afternoon, visited with a few people, paid bills and went to a funky little place on the river for dinner. Nothing fancy, but they had live music and we watched a small alligator in the river. Nice and relaxing after our stressful trip on the Gulf. Tomorrow we plan to take the dinghy out and see what we can find....maybe some bigger alligators!
