Day 72 - Change of Plans
Thursday's Cove - Anchorage

Our plan today was to go to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo. We traveled today on the Gulf side, but to get to the park we had to go through the Marvin Adams Cut. It's a narrow cut with a 14' bridge. We had to lower our tower and bimini so we could slide under the bridge. On the way in we were stopped by the Border and Customs boat, they told us it was high tide and the current was very strong through the cut. So...we dropped our anchor and Stan took the dinghy over to the bridge to check out the situation. We decided it would be better to change our plans. Too bad, it would have been fun to spend the afternoon in the park, swimming and snorkeling. We went a few miles up the keys and anchored out in Thursday's Cove. We spent the afternoon planning our itinerary for the next few days. There are so many anchorages and marinas in the Miami area...it makes choosing difficult. Miami is our next stop...mega homes and mega yachts.

Sunrise in Long Key
Cowpen Cut - I read somewhere that they penned up manatees in this cut while they were building the Seven Mile Bridge. They used the manatees to feed the workers.
Most of the water today was crystal clear
