June Updates

“In every conceivable manner, the family is a link to our past and a bridge to our future.” – Alex Haley
Wow hard to believe June is over and July is here. Summer has finally arrived in upstate New York...warmer temperatures and more sunshine, so the summer is in full swing. Hopefully this trend will stick around for awhile.

As I've posted before, blogging is a little difficult when you stay in one place...one day blends into the next and it just doesn't seem like we're doing anything blog worthy. We've enjoyed the company of family and friends this season and we've had a great time showing all of them the sights. We've had our grandson, Graham, onboard twice in June. Once on his own and another time while his whole family was here. Even our little Cora got to spend three nights on the boat with us...she did great. We all had a lot of fun.

After our family went home a visiting boat arrived...Moonstruck is a PDQ and it's crew are friends of friends, that makes them our friends. We had a fabulous week sharing our summer home with them. I think they've fallen in love with Ithaca and the Finger Lakes too. We spent the week going to wineries, listening to music, hiking and biking to waterfalls, tasting cheese, exploring the Cherry Festival and enjoying a few happy hours and meals together. But I truly think Diane enjoyed her shopping trips to Wegmans the most. It truly is an easy area to fall in love with.

We always have fun when Graham comes to play.
Summer is a wonderful time in upstate New York...every weekend there's some kind of festival. One weekend we drove down to Owego to the Strawberry Festival. Lots of people...lots of strawberries...lots of sunshine.
We're really enjoying our new little runabout this summer...nice to be able to get out on the lake whenever we like.
We had a great long weekend when Kyle and his family came up to the lake...wineries, parks, boat rides. Spending time with family is so much fun.
When Kyle and his family came to visit they rented a house just a few miles up the lake from our boat. The house is a lot of fun, it has a large yard, pond, swings and a treehouse. Plenty of space to run and play.
The Erie Canal has been plagued with delays and closures this summer, which gave the crew of Moonstruck a chance to explore a new place. One night we went to the Bright Leaf Winery. We listened to music, enjoyed a little wine and got to know Diane and JP a little better.
The four of us took the Black Diamond Bike Trail up to Taughannock Park one day. A sixteen mile round trip...but worth the effort when you're rewarded with such beautiful sights.
Our last outing together included lunch in Seneca Falls, a cheese tasting at the Muranda Cheese Company and picking cherries at the Varick Cherry Festival.
The festival was held at Varick Winery, it was a small festival, but it was fun to be outside on such a wonderful day. It's been a lot of fun having cruisers here.
Several nights a week...when the weather is just right, we are treated to a hot air balloon show. Our grands really enjoyed watching them come over the boat.
