Aug. 15 - Provincetown, MA

Provincetown Harbor - Anchorage

When we got up this morning we didn't have a real plan for the day, but we decided we didn't want to sit in Boston Harbor feeling the effects of the ferries any longer...it was time to move on. According to our weather reports it was going to be a little windy, so we planned on skipping Provincetown since we would be in the open Atlantic and away from shore. The plan when we left at 9:00 was to go back to Plymouth, but the seas were flat and the day was beautiful. So we altered our cruise and headed for the tip of Cape Cod.

Provincetown is a New England town located at the extreme tip of Cape Cod in Massachusetts. A small coastal resort town with a year-round population around 3,000, that population increases to 60,000 in the summer. Sometimes called "P-town" the town is known for its beaches, harbor, artists, and tourist industry. It's where the glaciers stopped, exhausted; it's where the dry land ends and the endless sea begins.

We had a smooth cruise all the way...the only ripples in the water were wakes from the ferries we would see now and then. We were hoping we might see a whale, but that didn't happen...I miss the seals and harbor porpoises we had in Maine. After anchoring in the harbor the wind began to pick up and by the time we went to bed we were having gusts in the 25 MPH range. Oh well, we're getting used to this rocking stuff...even if we don't like it. Hopefully tomorrow will be better and we can get into P-town to explore.
