July 18 - Cape Elizabeth, ME

Richmond Island
Seal Cove - Anchorage
We spent a long day on the water. It was 115 miles from Plymouth to our first anchorage in Maine. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day...the sea was almost flat, we had a gentle breeze and the sun was shining. We are heading north as quickly as possible to escape the heat that has settled over New England...temperature should begin to drop by this weekend. The coolest place to be is on the water, so moving north is the best option. We'll move slower on our way south later in the summer and visit some of the places we've by passed.

The highlight of our day was spotting a Pilot Whale off the shore of Massachusetts...our first whale. We were so excited, even if his visit was short. Hopefully we'll see a few more while we are in Maine. A seal greeted us on our way into the anchorage this evening, but I didn't get a picture of him either...I'm definitely going to have to be quicker with the camera. Hopefully all our new experiences in Maine will be as exciting as these.

Sunrise as we left Plymouth
This is what the whale looked like...since I didn't get a picture I borrowed this one from the Internet.
It was beautiful in the North Atlantic today
