June 8 – Port Washington, NY

Port Washington Mooring Field

We woke up to a beautiful morning, Andrea moved through last night and we only had a few clouds left this morning. We needed to provision and wanted to look around town, so we lowered the dinghy. Our outboard has been giving us trouble lately and today it didn’t want to run at all! So we called the water taxi for a pick up…it was a fun way to get to town. We walked through a small farmers market, then through a Mediterranean Market that was full of all kinds of neat things. It’s also a café…I think we’ll need to come here for breakfast tomorrow. Port Washington and the neighboring villages are very nice; full of neat little shops and restaurants, plus all the regular things boaters need like a grocery store, laundromat, West Marine and Ace Hardware. We had lunch at Salvatore’s Pizzeria, we love finding great pizza and this was amazing.

We stopped at West Marina and Stan picked up a few things to work on the outboard, we got the groceries we needed and then called the water taxi to take us back to the boat. Everyone in town was friendly and helpful. This is definitely a cruiser friendly town and we will be back. Stan worked on the outboard and it is running better, but not like it should. There’s always something that needs attention when you live on a boat.

We spent the evening catching up with the crew on Rhumb Line; we haven’t seen them since last summer on Lake Champlain. We had a great time, they're on their way to Maine too, so I’m sure we’ll run into them again.
