Liberty Park - Anchorage
First thing this morning
we pulled the anchor and made our way up the Point Pleasant Cut into the Manasquan
River. Our plan was to anchor and wait for the wind to calm down a little, but
it seemed hard to waste the day like that, so we decided to head right out the
inlet into the Atlantic. It was a little windier than we like, but we thought
we'd give it a try...if we thought it was too bad we'd come back in. I think getting out of the inlet is the roughest and scariest part. This time we
had several large fishing boats heading out at the same time. A little nerve
racking to me, but the Captain took it like it was just another day. Once out in
the ocean we did bounce a little, but nothing we couldn't handle. The further
north we got the smoother the ride...our only problem was the tide. It was
against us most of the day and added considerable time to our trip.
Coming into New York
harbor is exciting. I like watching the Verrazano Bridge, the Manhattan skyline
and the Statue of Liberty get closer and closer. Stan has to be very alert;
it's a busy place with boats of all sizes and speed moving around. We went back
to the anchorage behind Miss Liberty, it gets us out of the main boat traffic
and the view is wonderful. I think we can see the statue better this
year...Hurricane Sandy thinned out the trees a little. Tomorrow we will move to
Liberty Landing Marina and visit the city for a few days.
