June 15 - Branford, CT

Branford Yacht Club

Stan thinks our the transmission to propeller drive train has more vibration in it than we've had in the past. The last few days we have been afraid we may have to have the boat hauled and have same major work done. Branford has a great boat yard in town, but this is a busy time of year and if we need to have work done it could be quite awhile until they'd have time. Their top mechanic came by yesterday and looked at our boat and didn't feel the vibration was out of the ordinary, but he did make a few suggestions on adjusting a couple of things, which Stan did. He also wanted to see the boat under full power, so first thing this morning we went by the boat yard and picked him up. We took a short cruise and brought the boat up to speed, he didn’t seem to think it was a critical issue. There are a few things we could do, but he seems to think we can wait till this fall or next spring. That way we wouldn't have to lose our time during the cruising season. After talking to the mechanic we both felt very relieved and can now make plans for the rest of our trip.

We took advantage of the beautiful day and explored the area on our bikes. This weekend is the Branford Festival on the town green. It had almost a county fair atmosphere (minus the animals)…carnival rides, children’s activities, food booths, arts and crafts and several stages with entertainment. We spent a few hours wandering through the booths, listening to music and enjoying the good food. Later in the afternoon our friends came back to the marina and we had a chance to sit on the deck of Amici and visit. We all went back to the festival this evening to listen to a concert. The first band wasn’t too bad, but none of us enjoyed the main attraction…just too loud for all us old folks!

Just part of the food booths they had...they had all the normal things you'd expect at a festival, but they had a few different things too, like Thai food and lobster rolls.
