Feb. 14 – Happy Valentine’s Day

Ashley Marina (Charleston)

We actually celebrated Valentines yesterday, because we couldn’t get a reservation at a decent time at our favorite restaurant. We went online and looked at menus at a number of different restaurants, but we decided on Magnolias. It is our favorite place to eat in Charleston; their menu is perfect for us. Everything we’ve eaten there is absolutely amazing…the mixture of ingredients and combination of flavors are wonderful. We keep thinking we’ll try something different, but why mess with perfection. We had a great meal and a wonderful Valentines celebration.

Magnolias opened in 1990 and ignited a culinary renaissance in Charleston, S.C., paving the way for countless other restaurants across the South. Today Magnolias remains a forerunner in upscale Southern cuisine, blending traditional ingredients and cooking techniques with modern flair for artful presentations.
We started off with Duck Pastrami Crostini – with sweet onion marmalade and arugula salad.
Stan had the Parmesan Crusted Flounder with jasmine rice & creek shrimp pirloo, sweet corn, tomato & asparagus salad, lump crab, citrus beurre blanc.
I had the Blue Crab Stuffed Rainbow Trout with butternut squash, braised escarole, smoked bacon dressing and creamed leeks.
