Aug. 18 – Burlington, VT

Farmers Market
Burlington Mooring Field

We woke up to a beautiful day…the front moved in last night and the temperature was 58 degrees this morning. Burlington is hosting the USA Triathlon this weekend, which is a national championship. They began swimming at 7:30, although we couldn’t see much from our mooring. We read they would be in the water until 10:00, so we had a slow morning on the boat. Around 10:00 we dinghied to shore and spent the morning at the Burlington Farmers Market. What a great way to spend the morning and what an amazing array of vegetables, art, cheeses, breads, wines, and meats they had. We sampled a lot of great items. They also have a lot of booths that sell things to eat; making a lunch choice was very hard. We also spent time wandering through the shops on Church Street, which is a pedestrian mall with street entertainers, music and over 100 places to shop and dine. It was a wonderful day to just relax and watch people.

Brad brought his fishing boat by this afternoon and took us to see Shelburne Bay, where they keep their Monk. What a great afternoon to be on the lake…and going fast was a real treat! We went back into town this evening to check out a few local breweries and have dinner. We found some good beer but our dinner choice was just average. Burlington is a beautiful town, with all kinds of activities to offer.
