May 8 - Annapolis, MD

Wonderful Town
Annapolis City Mooring Field

We just love Annapolis...it's one of our favorite places to visit. When you're here, you're walking the same streets our founding fathers walked...where history was made. Every building is full of history. We peculiarly love the view looking down Main Street from Church Circle...it's a great view of the harbor. Hopefully I will have a chance to take a picture of this later in the week when the sun is out. If you want to see more info and pictures of Annapolis...look at our blog entries from August 13-14, 2011.

We woke to partly sunny skies, still very windy, but a nice morning. When you live on a boat there are certain things that have to be taken care of regularly, like getting pump outs and taking on water. Those were our goals today. We released our mooring ball in time to make the Spa Creek Bridge 9:00 opening. We docked in Ego Alley and filled with water. I ran a few errands and Stan stayed with the boat visiting with people walking by. The City Marina includes a couple of marinas and hundreds of mooring balls, so they have a boat that visits you when you need a pump out. Just give them a call and they come take care of you. By lunch our basic needs had been met!

We took the dinghy to town this afternoon; every street in Annapolis that comes down to the water has a public dinghy dock, so finding a place to go ashore is very easy. The streets are narrow and all seem to go uphill...so we left the bikes on the boat. We walked through a beautiful neighborhood, some homes were new, but many were hundreds of years old. We made our way to Church Circle, State Circle and down Main Street. As I said before, we just love this city. Before we could get back to the boat it began to rain…a light rain, so we didn’t get too wet. We were invited to join some new friends for dinner. Jim and Belinda were moored next to us last night, but moved into Ego Alley so they could celebrate Belinda’s birthday. We dinghied into Ego Alley this evening for happy hour on their boat and dinner at Pussers Caribbean Grille. We had a nice evening.

St. Mary's Church, a Victorian Gothic structure, consecrated in 1860. The octagonal steeple was added around 1876.
Annapolis, the state capital of Maryland, was founded in 1649 and is full of 200-300 year old buildings. This is part of the waterfront, the downtown dinghy dock is just to the right of this picture
