April 16 – Caladesi Island, FL

Day 41 – Away from the Crowds
Caladesi Island State Park Marina

We reluctantly left Tarpon Springs this morning. We really enjoyed our time here and made a few new friends, but it was time to move on to somewhere new. We didn't go far...it was only 16 miles to Caladesi Island State Park. It's a barrier island across from Dunedin. The only way to get here is by boat. Friends we met in Tarpon Springs came over yesterday, they reserved a spot for us...since it's first come first served and it can get a little crowded on the weekend. It’s a pretty marina and it's fun to be next to people we know.

The park has a beautiful beach, marina, picnic areas and a nice 2.5 mile nature trail. After lunch we enjoyed the beach and later in the afternoon I walked along the nature trail. The park provides a ferry that brings people over for the day. The best part about being here on our own boat...the crowds of people leave at five. Very quiet and peaceful out here after dark. We had a small party on the dock this evening with four other couples. It was fun to listen ever one else’s stories.
