Mar. 10 – Port Arthur, TX

Day 4 – Busy Day
Taylor Bayou – Anchorage

Well we can’t say we have been bored lately. The winds picked up last night and we had to move the boat to a more secure location. Of course this was after we had showered and were ready for bed…so neither of us slept well.

This morning we had to wait for barge traffic to pass a low railroad bridge and then they lowered the bridge to let the train come by. After passing the Galveston Railroad Bridge we were in the middle of Galveston Bay…wind blowing 20-25 MPH and four foot seas. Lots of excitement, ships and WAVES! It was nice to be back in the quiet ICW.

After passing a zillion barges we were boarded by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. They checked our documentation, IDs and made a thorough search of the boat. They were very nice and decided we weren’t the drug runners they were looking for.

This part of the Texas coast makes Port Lavaca and south Texas look like paradise. We’ll be in Louisiana tomorrow…maybe the scenery will improve. At the moment we are anchored in a quiet bayou near Port Arthur…way out in the country. All you can hear are the sounds of birds and crickets. We traveled 72 miles today…a long and busy day. Our Verizon MiFi may not work for the next few days, so I may have to update the blog later when our reception is better.
